Good morning, Etobicoke! I'm Bri, and we've hit the stretch of August where the pool feels shorter and the school supply aisle feels longer. It's 23 and sunny today, 27 and sunny tomorrow, and then the weekend goes damp on us. If you have one good outdoor plan left in you, spend it Friday.

THE DIGEST
🎫 Your Monthly Pass Is About To Vanish 🎫
The TTC switches to monthly fare capping on September 1. Tap 47 times in a calendar month on the same card and every ride after that is free, automatically. Adult, youth and senior monthly passes stop selling August 31, and so do the youth and senior 12 month passes. Adult 12 month subscribers can stay put or cancel without penalty, and the post secondary monthly pass carries on unchanged.
⚖️ The Bike Lane Fight Moves To The Ballot ⚖️
Ontario's Court of Appeal ruled Friday that the Ford government can remove 19 km of bike lanes on Bloor, Yonge and University. "Policy is for politics," Justice Grant Huscroft wrote, overturning the lower court that had blocked the removals. A full segment by segment list still has not been published. Meanwhile Brad Bradford has already promised to take our stretch of Bloor out if he wins in October.
🗳️ Forty Five Names On The Mayor's Ballot 🗳️
Nominations for the October 26 election close Friday at 2 p.m., so the ballot is nearly final. Forty five candidates are registered for mayor, Olivia Chow among them. Ward 1 Etobicoke North has nine, including incumbent Vincent Crisanti and Chloe Brown. Ward 2 Etobicoke Centre has three, with Stephen Holyday running again. Ward 3 Etobicoke Lakeshore has four, including Amber Morley and Ted Opitz.
📌 Quick Hits
The Etobicoke Olympium turned 50 on August 15 with a free open house at 590 Rathburn: synchro and gymnastics demos, the Olympic pool set up for 50 metre long course, and The LEGO Movie on the soccer field after. And if you have not yet done the mental math on summer: the first day of school is Tuesday, September 8 for both the TDSB and the TCDSB, with PA days on the 2nd and 3rd and Labour Day on the 7th.
