THE DIGEST

🎬 Movie Night Just Got Cheaper 🎬

Cineplex is bringing back $5 movie tickets and $5 popcorn every Tuesday starting January 14. Scene+ members can save even more with an extra 10% off, and upgrades to premium formats like IMAX® or VIP are available for an additional cost. While the popcorn deal wraps up on February 11, discounted tickets will continue every Tuesday all year. Perfect for a budget-friendly night out at Etobicoke’s Queensway location this winter!

🚨 Safer Streets: Etobicoke Shooting Suspect Finally in Custody 🚨

Three years after a deadly triple shooting near Lake Shore Boulevard West and Browns Line, police have arrested 34-year-old Phillip Grant, one of Canada’s most wanted fugitives. Grant faces two second-degree murder charges in connection with the deaths of two Mississauga men and injuries to a third victim. With help from Windsor Police, his capture is a big step in bringing justice—and peace—to the community.

🚇 TTC Freezes Fares, Adds New Etobicoke Shuttle 🚇

With the TTC’s proposed 2025 budget focusing on freezing fares and boosting service, Etobicoke riders are already seeing improvements. The new 149 Etobicoke-Bloor Accessibility Shuttle, connecting Kipling and High Park, launched on January 5 as part of broader efforts to enhance accessibility and reliability. The $2.81-billion budget also aims to restore service to pre-pandemic levels, reduce overcrowding, and improve station cleanliness. While Mayor Olivia Chow has defended the $85-million increase in city funding as a necessary transit investment, the city is still determining how to fund the additional costs.
