Good morning, Etobicoke! I'm Bri, and just like that, it's October. The Halloween aisle has been open since August, Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away, and somewhere a group chat is already negotiating who's bringing the pie. Let's get into this week's news.

THE DIGEST

🚌 Someone Took A TTC Bus For A Joyride 🚌
The TTC is investigating a video showing people speeding a bus around its North Queen Yard in Etobicoke earlier this month. They knocked over a sign post along the way, with a thumbs-up from the driver's seat for good measure. CEO Mandeep Lali called it a "despicable criminal act" and says security has been stepped up. Police have a report on file. The rest of us will keep waiting at the stop like normal people.

🪧 Lawn Sign Season Starts Today 🪧
Starting today, candidates can put up election signs, so your neighbours' politics are about to become lawn decor. The rules: nothing next to a voting place, a City park or a City facility, nothing on medians, and nothing attached to trees. Signs must come down by October 29. If you spot one breaking the rules, call 311 with the candidate's name and the location. And never toss one in the recycling.

🛍️ Italy's Canadian Debut Lands At Sherway 🛍️
Intimissimi (lingerie and sleepwear) and Calzedonia (tights, leggings and swimwear) are opening their first Canadian stores at CF Sherway Gardens this October. No exact date has been announced yet. They'll be two separate boutiques in the old Kate Spade space. The Eaton Centre doesn't get its locations until May 2027. For once, downtown is waiting on us.

🚓 Police Identify Man Found At James Gardens 🚓
Police have identified the man found in a burning vehicle at James Gardens on September 22 as Mohamud Kheyre, 30. An autopsy found he had been fatally shot before the fire. His death is Toronto's 28th homicide this year. Police say it's too early to know whether it's connected to a similar case in Scarborough, but they believe both men were targeted. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

📌 Quick Hits
Talks between Unifor and Stellantis are still at an impasse, still in conciliation, and Unifor says no strike votes have been scheduled. The Etobicoke Casting Plant's future remains unconfirmed. The new Etobicoke Civic Centre was set to reach its 15th floor this month, one shy of the top, and opens in 2028. Nuit Blanche lights up Humber's Lakeshore Campus Saturday night.
