Real Estate Prices Drop, Redditors Rejoice
Redditors track home sales with a side of schadenfreude

Good morning, Etobicoke! I’m Bri, the voice behind Etobicoke Scoop. Every Thursday, I’ve got your roundup of local news, events, and stories, all in one easy read.
You might’ve noticed there was no issue last week. With the back-to-school scramble in full swing, life got a little too busy. Thanks for sticking with me.
Let’s get back to it.
In this week’s newsletter:
🕳️ Sinkhole Drama: Truck vs. driveway—guess who won?
💸 Housing Gossip: House prices drop, Reddit rejoices
🎬 Cineplex Plot Twist: The Queensway's not closing!
Plus: Farmers' markets, Taste of The Kingsway 🎨
THE DIGEST
🕳️ Sinkhole 1, Truck 0 🕳️
A utility truck took an unplanned plunge into a sinkhole in an Etobicoke apartment driveway this week. No injuries, but plenty of drama. Emergency crews had to MacGyver their way through the scene while residents tried to figure out what on Earth (or under it) went wrong. Officials are still digging—literally—for answers.
🏠💸 Toronto Real Estate: The Plot Twist 💸🏠
Toronto’s once red-hot housing market is... cooling. And some online sleuths are here for it. Enter: HouseSigmaBlunders, a Reddit-style peanut gallery tracking homes selling for less than their last price tag. It's giving “real estate reality check,” and while it might seem like petty gossip, it’s also sparking bigger convos about housing affordability and market karma.
🎬 Queensway Cineplex: Not Rolling the Credits 🎬
The sequel we didn’t know we needed: Cineplex Queensway is not closing, after all. Despite redevelopment buzz, the theatre just renewed its lease—potentially for another 20 years. Credit goes to the locals who rallied with petitions and pushback. For now, your popcorn plans are safe.
