THE DIGEST
🥩 Black Angus Steakhouse Sizzles Out 🥩
After 60 years of serving up prime Canadian beef, Black Angus Steakhouse in Etobicoke has shuttered its doors for good, adding to the growing list of longstanding local businesses facing closures. The classic steakhouse was a beloved destination for prime cuts and classic dishes, leaving a steak-shaped hole in hearts. The closure, attributed to Toronto's high rent and operational costs, leaves a void in the community. While hope lingers for a revival, a new Toronto steakhouse is on the horizon, though it's not quite in the neighborhood's backyard.
🔥🚒 Man Rescued from 19th Floor Fire 🚒🔥
Toronto Fire crews swooped in superhero-style to save a man trapped on the 19th floor of an Etobicoke high-rise engulfed in flames. The dramatic rescue unfolded at a residential complex on Richview Road, with the man rushed to the hospital for serious, but non life-threatening injuries. While the cause of the fire remains a mystery, the firefighters are the unsung heroes of the day, ensuring everyone's safety in the face of danger.
💸✏️ No More Empty Pockets for Teachers ✏️💸
Premier Doug Ford declares an end to teachers shelling out personal cash for classroom supplies, introducing $750 supply cards annually for elementary homeroom teachers. This $66 million initiative aims to ease the burden on educators and provide easy access to materials like stationary, tissues, and arts and crafts supplies. While welcomed, some teacher unions see it as overdue recognition of chronic underfunding, sparking discussions on education budget priorities.
