Good morning, Etobicoke! Between the puddles and grey skies, spring is definitely making an entrance. I’m Bri, the voice behind Etobicoke Scoop. Here is what is happening around the neighbourhood this week.

THE DIGEST
⚡️ Hydro Pole Taken Down in Shocking Crash ⚡️
Last night, a driver in Etobicoke went full-speed into trouble, crashing into a hydro pole near Westway and Hartsdale Drive (just west of Islington), sending it tumbling into the intersection. Traffic lights are out, power is a no-go, and the driver? Arrested for suspected impaired driving. This shocking scene left the area in a blackout, while the cops are piecing together the aftermath. Stay safe out there, folks.
🎬 Gilead's Toronto Tale Unveiled 🎬
Toronto, aka Gilead, is more than just a filming location for "The Testaments," the new "Handmaid's Tale" sequel. With Margaret Atwood's influence and a dedicated cast, the city is a crucial backdrop for the dystopian drama. From filming at Cinespace Studios in Etobicoke to transforming Oakville mansions into Gilead schools, Toronto's role in bringing Gilead to life goes beyond the screen, offering a chillingly familiar setting for this Emmy-winning franchise.
🚿💧 Hot Water Havoc at Humber Polytechnic 💧🚿
Humber Polytechnic students are feeling the heat—literally—as the push for net zero emissions leads to chilly dorm dilemmas. The college's SWITCH program to cut carbon emissions is leaving residents without hot water, with some enduring hours-long shortages. Despite efforts to communicate, students are left in the cold, even resorting to showering elsewhere. Will Humber find a solution before things boil over?
Finding a trustworthy contractor in Etobicoke shouldn't feel like a gamble. But too often it does. No-shows, vague quotes, and people who just don't treat you or your home with respect.
I've been thinking about this a lot, especially for older homeowners in our community and the family members looking out for them. Reliable, patient, honest help shouldn't be this hard to find.
I'm exploring whether there's something worth building here for Etobicoke. Before I do anything, I want to hear from you. Takes 10 seconds.
Do you or someone you love struggle to find trustworthy, reliable contractors for home repairs?
