🐀 Etobicoke Barely Squeaks Onto Ontario’s ‘Rattiest’ List 🐀
Etobicoke has squeaked its way onto Orkin Canada’s list of the top 25 “rattiest” places in Ontario, coming in near the bottom. While not as critter-filled as downtown Toronto—which claimed the top spot—Etobicoke’s appearance on the list reflects the impact of construction and urban growth pushing rats into residential areas. Locals are encouraged to secure garbage and keep outdoor spaces tidy to help manage the population and keep those pesky rodents from making themselves at home!
🔥 New Art on the Block: 'Campfire' Lights Up Humber Bay Shores 🔥
Etobicoke’s art scene just got a warm, new addition! A stunning 12-foot installation named Campfire was unveiled at Humber Bay Shores, celebrating the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and their deep ties to the land. Crafted from Corten and stainless steel, the sculpture stands proud near the water, inviting visitors to take a moment to gather, reflect, and feel the spirit of Indigenous placekeeping.
🚇 TTC’s ‘Baby on Board’ Badge: Coming Soon to a Subway Near You? 👶
The TTC is toying with a new “Baby on Board” badge program for pregnant riders and parents with little ones. The idea? Give moms and dads a subtle signal to others that they could use a seat or some extra space. Inspired by similar programs in cities like London and NYC, TTC’s move could make rush hour just a bit kinder. Feedback is rolling in now—if you’re a fan, this is your chance to weigh in and help make Toronto’s transit a little more family-friendly!
🍿 Etobicoke Fights to Save Beloved Cineplex from Condo Development 🍿
Etobicoke residents are rallying to save Cineplex Cinemas Queensway & VIP from a proposed condo development that could bring twelve high-rise towers to the site. Locals like James Dean worry about losing a community staple that has introduced generations to the magic of movies, while disability advocate Sean Guptill emphasizes the cinema’s importance as a safe space for his program participants to learn life skills. With over 6,000 signatures on an online petition and Cineplex holding a long-term lease, the community hopes their voices will encourage decision-makers to protect this cherished neighborhood hub.
⚽️ Centennial Park’s FIFA Training Facility Faces Uncertain Future ⚽️
In a bid to curb skyrocketing World Cup costs, Centennial Park may lose its chance to host a FIFA training facility. Originally set to welcome international teams as they gear up for the 2026 World Cup, the proposed site is now at risk as the City of Toronto evaluates ways to rein in expenses. While Etobicoke locals were looking forward to the facility bringing world-class soccer closer to home, the potential cut has some wondering how the city will manage costs while still making Toronto a top-notch host city.
