THE DIGEST
🔥 Garbage Truck Inferno Lights Up Etobicoke 🔥
In the early hours, a fiery blaze at a GFL Environmental facility in Etobicoke turned multiple garbage trucks into toast. Parked trucks went up in flames, but thankfully no injuries were reported. The Office of the Fire Marshal is on the case to unravel the mystery behind the fiery spectacle. Let's hope this wasn't a trashy arson attempt, but just a smelly accident.
🍽️ Food for Now Faces Trespassing Troubles 🍽️
A local charity, Food for Now, known for providing free food and essential items to seniors in Etobicoke, is facing possible legal action for trespassing on Toronto Senior Housing Corporation property. Despite serving 60 to 120 people weekly, the group has been asked to vacate the premises, sparking a community plea for support. With a meeting scheduled to discuss the issue, the fate of this essential service hangs in the balance.
🌟💰 Chow's 2026 Budget Approved with Minor Tweaks 💰🌟
Mayor Olivia Chow's 2026 city budget, featuring a 2.2% property tax increase, sailed through council with minor adjustments. Despite criticism for potential financial risks, Chow emphasized affordability measures like a seniors support program and new TTC fare policies. Critics sounded off on reserve fund usage, sparking debates over financial sustainability. The budget's approval sets the stage for Toronto's financial landscape in the coming years.
