Good morning, Etobicoke! I’m Bri, and Halloween is officially next weekend. That means the costume plan has changed at least three times and the candy you bought “for the kids” is somehow already half gone. Let’s get into this week’s news.

In this week’s newsletter:

🗳️ Toss-Up: Etobicoke could decide Monday’s mayor’s race
🍕 Slice Of Life: a Portnoy-approved pizzeria picks The Queensway

Plus: two days of Line 2 shutdowns, lantern tours at Montgomery’s Inn and Pumpkinfest in The Kingsway 🎃

THE DIGEST

🗳️ Etobicoke Could Tip The Mayor’s Race 🗳️
Three new polls, three different stories. Liaison Strategies and Mainstreet both have Brad Bradford ahead by a point or two, and Mainstreet says he leads right here in Etobicoke. Pollara, in a poll commissioned by CUPE Local 416, has Olivia Chow up seven. Translation: nobody knows. Closer to home, Ward 3 Deputy Mayor Amber Morley faces former Conservative MP Ted Opitz, plus Anthony Internicola and Mihaela Andrei. Polls open Monday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

🍕 A Mississauga Pizza Favourite Crosses The Border 🍕
Pizza Nostra, the Mississauga shop that earned a rare 8.0 on Dave Portnoy’s One Bite reviews, is opening at 802 The Queensway. An owner says they’re hoping for December. Expect New Jersey-style thin crust, thick Sicilian squares and house-made sausage from brothers who got their start in their dad’s butcher shop on Jane Street. Mississauga, we owe you one.

📌 Quick Hits
Provincial crews kept tearing out the Bloor bike lanes between Islington and Royal York this week, and protesters kept showing up. Police made a fourth arrest Monday afternoon near Bloor and Islington. Protesters have launched a fundraiser for legal costs and damaged bikes, and the work is expected to wrap in November. Meanwhile, around 2 a.m. Sunday, a red sports car hit a pole near Islington and Bering avenues and brought down wires. The driver ran off on foot and is still outstanding. No one was hurt, and the pole is taking no questions.

Answer: #4 is the lie. Etobicoke Creek is Toronto’s western border, which makes sense, since it’s in Etobicoke.
