THE DIGEST

♿ Mimico Wants Action on GO Station Access ♿
Frustrated Mimico residents rallied this week to demand long-overdue accessibility upgrades at their local GO station. Despite a new contract to begin design work, there’s still no start date for construction. With no elevators and steep stairs, the station poses major challenges for people using strollers, bikes, or mobility aids. Locals say it’s time for real progress—not more promises.

🚧 Etobicoke Residents Want Their Yards Back 🚧
Homeowners on Coney Road and surrounding side streets off Royal York Road, just north of The Queensway, say last year’s roadwork left their front yards a mess. The City dug deeper culverts, removed grass, and never returned to re-sod the area. Notices had promised work would be finished by the end of 2024, but residents say they’ve been left waiting with no updates. After turning to the media for help, the City now says repairs will begin this week and wrap up by June 16, weather permitting.

🚨 Teen Injured in E-Bike Crash Near 401 Ramp 🚨
A 15-year-old boy was seriously injured Tuesday night after his e-bike collided with a car near Islington Avenue and the Hwy. 401 eastbound ramp in Kingsview Village. Police say the teen was riding northbound when a driver turned left onto the ramp, leading to the crash. The driver remained on scene and the teen was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

📣 Long Branch Rallies Against Massive Demoviction Plan 📣
A proposed development in South Etobicoke could demolish five apartment buildings and replace them with eight towers, some up to 30 storeys tall. If approved, the plan would bring over 2,000 new units to a quiet lakeside neighbourhood, but at the cost of 548 rent-controlled apartments. The City of Toronto has not approved the application, and it's now headed to the Ontario Land Tribunal this fall. Residents, local groups, and the City itself are pushing back, citing affordability, density, and infrastructure concerns. A community demonstration is planned for June 8 at 3 p.m. at Long Branch Ave. and Park Blvd.

Most readers chose a month off to travel, with paying off the mortgage coming in a close second. A few would start a dream business — and no one admitted to buying lottery tickets (thankfully).
