THE DIGEST
🚧 Shelter Standoff: Etobicoke Residents Push Back on Parking Lot Plan 🚧
A planned 80-bed shelter in south Etobicoke is facing strong opposition from local residents, who say they were blindsided by the city’s decision to place it in a Green P parking lot near Lake Shore Blvd. W. and Islington Ave. Critics argue the location—on a quiet residential street—raises safety concerns for children and seniors and lacks proper community consultation. The city, however, says the site was one of the few viable options in Etobicoke and stresses the need for shelters beyond downtown as demand surges. With tensions high and a newly formed advocacy group calling for a pause, the debate over the shelter’s future is heating up.
🔨 Six Points is Under Construction with New Housing and a Civic Hub 🔨
The Six Points area is buzzing with construction as eight cranes now tower over the Dundas and Kipling intersection, marking a major step in Etobicoke’s long-awaited transformation. Two massive projects are underway—5207 Dundas West, the first Housing Now initiative bringing 725 rental units, and the new Etobicoke Civic Centre, which will house municipal offices, a library, and community services. The skyline is shifting fast, turning this once-empty interchange into a dense urban hub.
🚔 Three Charged in Fatal Etobicoke Shooting That Killed 16-Year-Old 🚔
Toronto police have arrested three men in connection with a deadly Feb. 4 shooting at an Etobicoke apartment that left 16-year-old Isaiah Fogah dead and a 19-year-old seriously injured. The shooting took place on Capri Road near The East Mall and Rathburn Road. Two suspects, aged 18 and 20, face second-degree murder and attempted murder charges, while the 18-year-old also faces firearm-related offenses. Police continue their investigation as the suspects make court appearances this week.
