THE DIGEST
📉 Etobicoke Rents: Calm in the Rental Storm 🏘️
Rent prices across Ontario are sliding, with high apartment completions, fewer non-permanent residents, and a weakening job market driving the trend. But Etobicoke is holding its own. One-bedroom rents ticked up 0.6% month-over-month and are down just 2.4% year-over-year. Two-bedrooms dipped a tiny 0.3%. That’s a stark contrast to places like Vaughan and Mississauga, where rents have plunged more than 8 percent. The takeaway? Etobicoke isn't getting dramatically cheaper, but it is proving to be one of the steadiest spots in the GTA right now.
🚨 Firearm Incident in Etobicoke Leads to Arrest 🔒
A 28-year-old Toronto man has been arrested after allegedly firing a gun during an altercation in Etobicoke last month. Police say the Sept. 21 incident near Lakeshore and Islington started with a heated argument and ended with the suspect pushing the victim and shooting into the ground. No injuries were reported. The man was arrested Oct. 4 near Long Branch, reportedly carrying a loaded .38 revolver. He now faces multiple firearm and assault charges. Police are still seeking tips from anyone who witnessed the incident.
🏗️💸 Cloverdale Condo Crash: What Happened? 💸🏗️
Etobicoke's Cloverdale mall redevelopment hits a snag as developers cancel condos due to low sales. Blaming economic uncertainty and shifting policies, Mattamy Homes and QuadReal nix the Clove project after selling less than 10% of units. With Toronto's real estate market cooling, cancellations are becoming a trend, impacting buyers and developers alike. The future of this Etobicoke community project now hangs in the balance.
