Good morning, Etobicoke! I’m Bri, and somehow October is down to its last two days. The rakes are out, the leaf bags are multiplying on every curb, and someone on your street has already blown their leaves onto someone else’s lawn. Let’s get into this week’s news.

In this week’s newsletter:

🕵️ Double Act: a fake detective, a fake judge and $200K gone in Mimico
🏛️ Re-Hired: all three Etobicoke councillors are heading back to City Hall
🎃 Treat Weekend: a sunny Halloween and an extra hour of sleep (allegedly)

Plus: lawn signs come down today, Sherway’s new Italian boutiques, last call for Pumpkinville and a Remembrance Day concert 🎻

THE DIGEST

🏛️ Etobicoke Re-Hires All Three Of Its Councillors 🏛️
Monday’s vote changed nothing at our end of the council table. Vincent Crisanti held Etobicoke North with 45.5% in a 10-person field, Stephen Holyday cruised in Etobicoke Centre with 57.7%, and Deputy Mayor Amber Morley beat former Conservative MP Ted Opitz in Etobicoke-Lakeshore, 48% to 37%. One plot twist: two of our three wards backed Brad Bradford for mayor, even as the city re-elected Chow.

🕵️ A Fake Detective And A Fake Judge 🕵️
Toronto police say a Mimico woman lost more than $200,000 in a scam with several layers. First, contractors allegedly misled her about needed repairs and blew past their quote. Then a man posing as a detective, “Philip Spring,” said those contractors were under investigation, and a fake judge, “Stephen Firestone,” told her to pay a large sum the court would supposedly refund. Police believe there may be more victims.

🎃 Sunny Halloween, Then An Extra Hour 🎃
For once, the forecast is a treat. Environment Canada calls for sun and a high of 14°C on Saturday, with a clear night dropping toward 1°C, so plan on a layer under the costume. Then the bonus: clocks fall back at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 1. That’s an extra hour of sleep, in theory. Parents of small kids know better.

📌 Quick Hits
Lawn sign season is officially over. Election signs have to come down today, and homeowners are on the hook for anything on their own property. Pull the staples and separate the stakes, and the City’s drop-off depots will recycle them for free. Spot a straggler after today? Call 311 with the candidate’s name and the location. Over at CF Sherway Gardens, Intimissimi and Calzedonia opened October 16, their first stores in Canada, side by side in the old Kate Spade space. The Eaton Centre doesn’t get its Intimissimi until spring 2027. So yes, Etobicoke is the test market. Try not to let it go to your head.
